What’s Involved in a House or Building Demolition
Residential and Commercial Teardowns
We take down structures of nearly every size and use type across Bay County. That includes single-family homes, additions, detached garages, duplexes and small multifamily buildings, retail spaces, office buildings, warehouses, restaurants, and aging commercial properties. Each project starts with a structural walkthrough so we can plan the right approach for that specific building – controlled mechanical demolition for most structures, with extra care around any shared walls, utilities, or sensitive site features.
Coastal and Inland Site Conditions
A teardown in coastal Panama City Beach or Mexico Beach is a different job from one in Fountain or Youngstown. Coastal structures often involve raised pilings, storm-rated framing, hurricane fasteners, and tight setbacks between neighbors. Inland projects may involve septic systems, well lines, outbuildings, and longer driveways for equipment access. We bring local experience to every job so we’re not surprised by what’s behind the walls or under the slab.
What’s Included in a Demolition Project
A demolition with The Dumpster Guy is a complete service – you’re not coordinating multiple contractors or wondering what’s outside our scope. A typical project includes:
- On-site walkthrough and project scoping
- Guidance on Bay County and municipal permit requirements
- Coordination of utility disconnects before work begins
- Controlled mechanical demolition of the structure
- Removal of attached features (decks, porches, carports, attached garages)
- Complete debris hauling and disposal
- Foundation, slab, or footing removal when included in scope
- Final site grading and cleanup
For renovation projects or smaller teardowns where you’d rather handle some of the cleanup yourself, we also rent 10, 15, and 20 yard roll-off dumpsters that pair well with DIY demo and remodel work. For full structure removal, dumpsters and hauling are built into the demolition quote.

House & Building Demolition FAQs
Do you handle both residential and commercial demolition?
Yes. Our crew handles single-family homes, additions, duplexes, retail and office buildings, warehouses, and other commercial structures throughout Bay County. The right equipment and approach depend on the building, not the use type, and we scope each project to fit.
Do I need a permit to demolish a building in Bay County?
In nearly every case, yes. Bay County and the incorporated cities – Panama City, Panama City Beach, Lynn Haven, Callaway, Springfield, Parker, and Mexico Beach – require a demolition permit from the local building department before work can start. We’ll walk you through what’s required for your specific address.
How long does a building demolition take?
The actual teardown is often a matter of days for a typical home and longer for larger commercial structures, but total project time depends on the size of the building, foundation type, debris volume, site access, and how quickly permits and utility disconnects come through. Call us with your address and we’ll give you a realistic timeline.
What happens to all the debris?
Hauling and disposal are part of our demolition quote. We bring down the structure, load and haul all debris, and dispose of materials at the appropriate facility – including recycling salvageable concrete and metal where possible.
Can you demolish just part of a building?
Yes. Partial demolition – removing an addition, a damaged section, an attached garage, or interior structures during a renovation – is a common project. We protect the portions of the building you’re keeping and clean up the demo area before we leave.
What about asbestos or hazardous materials?
Older buildings sometimes contain asbestos, lead paint, or other regulated materials that have to be addressed before demolition. If a survey is required for your property, we’ll let you know during scoping and coordinate the work in the right order so the project stays compliant.
